How to Install SSL Certificate in OpenCart 2.0 – 2.x

Prior to starting this tutorial, make sure you have purchased the SSL Certificate through your hosting provider. The cheapest option is to use third party vendor such as Namecheap where you can purchase one for low as $9.00 a year. Make sure you have private SSL certificate already active, not shared.

1. From the OpenCart backend, go to System > Settings > Click Edit

2. Go to the Server tab and select Yes next to the Use SSL.

3. To check if the SSL certificate is working, go to the online store and checkout any item.

4. You will see the padlock icon appear next to your URL address at the top. Using the Safari web browser, by clicking the padlock icon it will tells you the current website you are connected to is encrypted.
